About the Mouse Mansion
The Mouse Mansion is a world of its own, with over a hundred tiny rooms filled with houses, shops, streets and outdoor spaces – all mouse-sized. Each room has its own resident with a unique story, personality and family ties. This miniature world is discovered by two mice, Sam and Julia. The everyday things they experience in the Mouse Mansion teach young readers meaningful life lessons. The Mouse Mansion is a safe haven, an inclusive world, and a story about friendship and community. The original Mouse Mansion is three metres tall and two metres wide, and you can admire it in person at the Mouse Mansion shop and museum on Muntplein in Amsterdam.
About Karina Schaapman
The Mouse Mansion was handcrafted by artist Karina Schaapman (born 1960). She wanted to create a children’s book, not with drawings, but with photographs of scenes from her handmade Mouse Mansion. The story of Sam and Julia was already in her mind. What started with a few pieces of cardboard and glue turned into a world of more than a hundred tiny rooms – a world Karina would love every child to grow up in.
